I was inspired by the breakdown of my favorite umbrella. When I lived in Maryland, I was too young to have my own car, and my host family couldn’t drive me everywhere. Walking became the only way I could reach the places I wanted to go, so I bought this umbrella. It didn’t just protect me from rain and snow, it started to hold memories. One day it finally began to fall apart, and instead of simply replacing it, I began thinking about how objects like this could stay with us a little longer. That thought became this project.
